A pair of Mississippi students were reportedly harassed for protesting the national anthem before a Saturday, Oct. 1 football game.
According to local news outlet WDAM 7 News, 100 protesters gathered on the University of Southern Mississippi campus to support the two women who were attacked. The protesters were made aware of the incident after one of the victims took to Facebook to vent her frustration. In one post, the women said fans called her derogatory racial terms. Then, outraged fans threw beers and sodas at the two women.
“Once we determine the participants, we will act in accordance with code of student conduct of The University of Southern Mississippi,” Dean of Students Eddie Holloway tells 7 News.
Now, the university’s police department is reviewing video from the incident and looking for the culprits.
