G.I. Joe Retaliation Tops Box Office

There was no doubt that G.I. Joe: Retaliation was going to be the major attraction at the box office this weekend, but Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor was no push-over as it continued the directors record of $20 million plus earning opening weekends.

G.I. Joe Retaliation banked an estimated $41.2 million for the three-day weekend, making it #2 for highest grossing Easter weekend, behind Clash Of The Titans’ $61 million.  The movie was a big hit with older men, with an audience of 68 percent men and 59 percent of that number was males over 25 years of age. Audiences gave the film an “A-“ CinemaScore, which means Paramount’s bold decision to push the film back nine months to add new scenes with star Channing Tatum, and to do some post production 3D conversions, proved to be the wise choice.  3D showing accounted for 45 percent of its total gross.

Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor performed just as Perry’s movies always perform—great! Temptation only showed in 2,047 theaters, but was nearly on par with G.I. Joe: Retaliation average per theater. The audience for Temtation was overwhelming females at 70 Percent, and they gave the film a “A-“ CinemaScore. This film made it the ninth Perry movie to open over $20 million and the only other directors to ever do that was Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis.
