Georgia Mom Wins Praise for How She Lovingly Responds to Her Sons Complex About His Dark Skin

An Atlanta mother was disheartened to learn that students bullied her son for having dark skin. But she found a song to uplift him, and the moment was captured on camera before quickly going viral.

Briana Hampton is a mother of three, and one of her children has had a tough time at school.

“My son has been bullied at school and kids have been teasing him about his Darkskin,” Hampton shared on Instagram Monday, Dec. 10. “Me and my husband @_latruth always say Son your handsome and those kids are mad their not you. Today I found the perfect song to tell my son how much i love him! 😢💔 I love you Isaiah your handsome and chocolate. The lady’s love chocolate men too. Ain’t that right ladies? #latruth #mrslatruth #thehamptons.”

That “perfect song” was the 2016 hit “That’s Why I Love You” by Major. Hampton posted an accompanying video of her lip-syncing to the song as she held her son’s hands.

“I’ve learned to love me too / Never have I felt that I could be all that you see / It’s like our hearts have intertwined and to the perfect harmony,” the pop soul star sings.

Hampton’s son breaks down in tears once his mother begins miming the chorus.

“This is why I love you / Ooh this is why I love you / Because you love me / You love me,” the song continues.

“Every moment that you smile chases all of the pain away / Forever and a while in my heart is where you’ll stay,” Major sings on the second verse as Hampton caresses her son’s face.

The video concludes with Hampton embracing her sobbing son with a hug and commenters were overcome with emotion, too. Additionally, they shared messages of support for the boy.

“This brought real tears to my eyes. 💕”

“I cried watching this. People can be so cruel, but you have a handsome boy. Thank you for loving him and sharing this.”

“This has broken my heart. Pls let your son know there are ppl out here who adores him and who things his dark skin is beautiful and full of richness.”

“😩This is SO beautiful!! He’s perfect 💕”

Even Major himself caught wind of the moment and admitted he also was moved to tears.

“⚠️ RISE UP, Young King! You’re Amazing. 👊🏾👑 #WhyILoveYouWednesday #aMothersLove,” he wrote on Instagram. “#WhyILoveYou Going GOLD was one thing but this right here is even more GOLDEN. 👑 Man… I saw myself in this Young King. I wrote this song with SELF LOVE in mind. I only HOPED to inspire the heart of every listener with #FACTSonly: The God (I serve) does ALL things well… that includes when He made YOU. #JustTheWayYouAre #noMistakes #noRegrets #HOPEdealer #DOntquIT. #iSalute the parents for paying attention & being the example of love.”
