Also note that as of the 2018/2019 service year onward health insurance is not allowed. Your name on the id card you use must match the name provided by your school to the NSS secretariat. If all the name do not match you cannot access the NSS enrollment form in the next step. Example if your full name Yaw Manu Antwi but for some reason the name on the id you entered is Kofi Smith Yeboah then the system would not let you register. But don’t panic there is a way around this. Read On How To Register If Your ID Is Rejected During NSS Online Registration.
  • How To Do The Ghana National Service Online Registration If Your ID Is Rejected On The Enrollment Page

The first thing  you would see after signing into the Ghana national service enrollment system for the national service online registration, is a page that requires you to choose a means of identification by entering the ID number of a supported ID card.

The supported ID cards are; a voters id, national id, ssnit id, drivers license or a Ghanaian passport. But what if for some reason, you do not have any of the cards. Either because you have misplaced it or because you have not acquired one yet.

The system would not allow you to move unto the enrollment form until you have provided a means of identification.

But do not worry, there is a workaround. This is what you can do.

  • First Option: If You Had Misplaced Your voter’s ID:

  • Just go to the electoral commission district or regional office in the town where you registered the card. Request for just the ID number by providing them with your your full name. All you need is the ID number and not the card itself. You would have to be humble as they are not obliged to provide you with that information.

Upon getting the ID number, you can move on to enter it on the enrollment page to verify your identity and register.

  •  Second Option: If You Do Not Have Any Of The Cards:

  • Go to a SSNIT office and request for a SSNIT card. SSNIT would not give you the card just because you need it. You must satisfy a condition. They require a letter of appointment from an employer that shows you have been recently employed. And that your employer is ready to pay your SSNIT contribution.

How do you get an appointment letter? Any registered business can give you an appointment letter. Even an MTN mobile money vendor business that is registered at a district assembly or similar authority.

You would have to admit that you have been recently employed by the said institution. And that you need a ssnit number. Your position of employment, employment date and all that is required in an appointment letter must be present. You can google online for a sample appointment letter.

SSNIT card takes almost a month, but its not the card that you need, you need a ssnit number. Upon registering with snnit you would receive your ssnit number in a week’s time.

Upon getting the SSNIT ID number, you can move on to enter it on the enrollment page to verify your identity and register.

  • Third Option: Get A Passport

  • The third option is to apply for a passport. This is not the safest option since we all know that even the expedited application takes more than a month. By then the national service enrollment would have been closed. Unless you have a connection man to fast track the process. Read on How To Apply For A Passport In An hour.

Posting To Preferred Institution For National Service Without Paying A Dime

You might be wondering how to get the Ghana national service secretariat to post you to your institution of choice during the posting period. While there are middlemen who claim to do the Ghana National Service posting for a fee during the posting period, you can do this without paying a dime.

It Is good to know that the Ghana national service secretariat officially does not post people to their institutions of choice during the posting period, and dealing with any middleman is at your own risk.

I must say there are some genuine middlemen who have links with people working at the secretariat. I know a couple of people who payed the said amount and got posted to their institution of choice.

I also know tons of people who payed such amount and were not posted to their institution of choice. This brings the question to how genuine it is, because everyone claims to be genuine.

Following that path is purely a high risk. You might be posted to where you want but upon reaching there you are told to go for re-posting since the place is full. You get no refund of money.

The price of the said amount ranges from three hundred cedes and up as of the 2018 service year. This amount increases over 50% every year.

You can get posted to your institution of choice for free. Yes, for free. Here is how. This is for educational institutions but may apply for other non-educational institutions.

How To Get The Posting To National Service Institution Of Choice For Free

All you need for your National Service posting after your registration is an assurance letter from your institution of choice with your national service ID in the heading of the letter. Read on How To Get Assurance Letter And A Sample Assurance Letter.

It is good to know that the NSS identifies you with your national service ID number. The ID you get after a successful online registration. This is what you get, right after your online registration. When you have gotten your national service ID number, let your institution of choice type and print you an assurance letter stamped and signed by the institution’s head, assistant or the right person responsible for endorsing such letters.

You can choose to let you or the institution post it by EMS but that is another risk. EMS can take up to a week to arrive. There is a big chance that your letter might not arrive early, the earlier this letter gets there the better.

There is another chance that your letter would not be touched since the NSS gets lots of letters from institutions during this period.

    Send The Letter Yourself

So send the assurance letter to the head office in Accra yourself a day or two after the online registration ends, not to your regional office because all postings are done at the head office in Accra.

Upon arriving at the head office do not give it to the people over the counter especially when there are a lot of people there, they would put it somewhere without touching it. Try entering through the door and say you are submitting a letter from an institution.

You would know your letter is in good hands when your letter is removed from the envelop and added to other letters or just added to other letters without being removed from the envelope. You would know this by keeping a study eye to see where it was placed.

With this done your placement (posting)is assured. I did this in the 2018 service year and got posted without paying a dime. I was taught this by two national service alumni who did same in the 2017 service year.

And I know up to five people who have done this. Actually this used to be a norm a while ago. But too many people where refusing to be posted to other places. They go for reposting as soon as they get there. It is good to know that as of the 2018/2019 service year reposting’s are cancelled. It is for only those whose institutions do not need their service, pregnant women and those with serious health issues that their environs may not be conducive. Thank me latter. How To Get The Assurance Letter For The National Service Posting After Your NSS Registration

    Option One

  • The easiest way of getting an assurance letter from your institution of choice as a prospective national service personnel is by offering your internship at this institution of choice, prior to or during your final year . Upon completion of your internship request for an assurance letter. If you were punctual and hardworking, they would see no reason not to give you. You should be making enquiries on how to get an assurance letter earlier in your internship days. You should be connecting with staff and relating well with them.
  • Option Two

  • The second way is to know someone who knows someone. This is Ghana for that matter. Whom you know and who knows you is everything. A brother or an uncle might be in good relations with someone at your institution of choice. They could just contact them and see you through.
  • Option Three

  • The third option is to contribute towards a developmental project or event in the institution. If it is a senior high school, you can give a token towards a project they unveil at a speech and price giving day or PTA meeting and use that as a reference point when requesting for the assurance letter. This is obviously not the best option but letting a known staff stand in for you would be easier. He could just say you just like the school and would want to work with them
  • It is good to know that you must go in person to request for the letter. Since you would need to send it as soon as possible and you get reply as of whether they are giving you or not instantly. If you are asked to put it in writing still present it by hand. Posting it and receiving reply through the posting is a long process. You can google around for a sample assurance letter, or you can Join Our Facebook forum through this link:  NTC Licensure Exams And GES Recruitment Forum to get the sample of the assurance letter I sent to the National Service head office that got me posted to my institution of choice. The forum deals with all details and guidance about the National Service Procedures, National Teaching Council Licensure exams, Ghana Education Service teaching and non teaching staff recruitment. No enquiry goes unanswered in the forum.

How To Print Your Appointment Letter And  What To Do Next

At this point you have successfully checked your placement. If you have not follow this guide How To Check For Postings or Placement As A Prospective NSS Personel.

Now that you know the institution you are going to work with. You would have to print your appointment letter and send it to your institution for approval. The option to print the appointment letter would be in the placement (postings)page. The question now is what next after knowing your placement. Here is what to do.

  • After printing the four page appointment letter, proceed to the institution you have been posted to. With two copies, for endorsement by an appropriate person. This could be the head of institution or head of human resource. Note that the endorsement is to be done on the third page that looks like this. It should be signed and stamped not just signed. They are to keep one and give you one.
  • National Service Registration And Placement-appointment-letter

  •   After the endorsement, schedule an appointment for regional validation and acceptance on the national service website. Here is how: How To Schedule Appointment For NSS Validation. You are to print the appointment form and take it along to your national service regional office when the time arrives. After booking appointment the page to print the scheduled appointment form would look like this.
  • National Service Registration And Placement-appointment-confirmation

  •  When the appointment date arrives go there as early as possible. Forget your time slot. It is a first come first served queue, there would be a lot of people there and if the closing time reaches you would have to go and come the next day, no matter where you are from. You are to go there with the endorsed appointment letter and an id card. Note that when your printed appointment letter does not contain the barcode, it is not valid. The barcode would be scanned at the validation center to authenticate it.
  •  After a successful validation you would be given a different appoint appointment letter with the Regional Acceptance Number (RAN) on it. Three copies would be given to you at the validation center after validation. You are to take one back to the institution  that endorsed your first appointment letter, thus where you are going to work. You are to keep one and send one to your national service district office. But upon reaching the national service district office you might be told they are not collecting appointment letters so keep it.
  •  After validation there comes biometric registration. You would have to go back to your regional office for this process. Your finger prints will be scanned and they will snap your face unto their system. Ideally this should have been combined with the validation process. But this is Ghana. This would lead to a lot of chaos and protocol registrations, you could be in a queue for over eight hours and still not be attended to. You would have to go home and come the next day. The purpose of the booking was to avoid this but it still happens. Best thing to do is go there before seven o’clock or forget it. People go there earlier than that. Another thing you can do is to relax, this process would go on for weeks. You can wait when the congestion comes down then you go.
  •   After the biometric registration and days into your service you would be required to login to your dashboard. There would be an option to enter your ezwitch card details. When the time is due it would be communicated to you through their website or the appropriate platforms.
  • You would be required to print your evaluation form getting to the middle of every month and have it endorsed by your supervisor in your institution and submit it before 15th of every month before you are paid. Good Luck On Your Service To The Nation.
  • Schedule Appointment For National Service Validation After Registration And Posting (Placement)

Things To Note About Biometric Registration And Placement

  • If you miss your appointment time dont panic just go you would be attended to. Even if you miss the date you can still go. The appointment time and date is used when there is overcrowding at the center. There is always several weeks extension to the normal validation date. You can go and you would be attended to. Even if you dint book appointment you can go, with a good explanation they would attend to you.
  •  When the appointment date arrives go there as early as possible. Forget about your time slot. It is a first come first served queue. As there would be a lot of people there and if the closing time reaches you would have to go and come the next day, no matter where you are from.
