James Daniel May was born on 16 January,1963 in Bristol, England, had a family consisting of his mother Kathleen, his father James, a brother, and two sisters. He attended Newport’s Caerleon Endowed Junior School and later Rotherham’s Oakwood Comprehensive School. During his youth, he was a member of the choir at Whiston Parish Church. Continuing his education, James May pursued music studies at Pendle College, part of Lancaster University. There, he learned to play the piano and flute. After completing his studies, he started working as a records officer at a hospital located in Chelsea. In recognition of his accomplishments, Lancaster University awarded James May an honorary doctorate in 2010.
