About Kenya Forest Service Recruitment
- The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, in collaboration with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), has commenced the process of recruiting 4,000 unskilled individuals to work as tree nursery attendants under the ‘Green Army’ initiative.
- The Green Army tree nursery attendants will actively support the national tree growing and ecosystem restoration program, which aims to cultivate 15 billion trees. Their responsibilities will include propagating seedlings, participating in tree planting activities, and providing extension services.
- These 4,000 recruits are the initial group of participants in the Green Army program, which is expected to expand gradually to involve 100,000 young people. The Green Army members will primarily engage in seedling propagation and provide assistance in tree growing extension services.
- The recruitment of the 4,000 tree nursery attendants by the KFS will be on a one-year contract basis, with contract renewal contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory performance of the recruits.
- Once hired, the attendants will be assigned to the 300 KFS tree nurseries located across the country.
- The tree nursery attendants will receive a monthly wage ranging from Kshs 8,613 to Kshs 16,401, depending on their duty stations. Additionally, they will be eligible for NHIF (National Hospital Insurance Fund) and NSSF (National Social Security Fund) coverage.
- The hiring of these 4,000 Green Army tree nursery attendants follows the recent employment of 2,700 forest rangers and an ongoing recruitment process for 600 foresters. These efforts collectively aim to enhance the forestry sector’s role as a significant driver of the economy.
