Olusegun Obasanjo was born in Ibogun Olaogun, British Nigeria. He was born on 5 March 1937. He was the first out of nine children. He began his education at the age of 11 after spending his early years doing agricultural labour. After three years, in 1951, he moved on to the Baptist Day School in the Owu quarter of Abeokuta. In 1952 he was transferred to the Baptist Boys’ High School, also in the town. Olusegun Obasanjo`s school fees were partly financed by state grants.
