About Peter Mcnab

Peter McNab, a Canadian-born American ice hockey player, enjoyed a 14-season career in the NHL, representing the Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, and New Jersey Devils from 1973 to 1987. Following his playing career, he worked as a color analyst for the Colorado Avalanche, starting from their inaugural 1995-96 season until his passing. At the age of 14, McNab moved to San Diego, California, due to his father’s role as head coach of the minor league San Diego Gulls, while he was born and spent his childhood in Vancouver.

Peter initially pursued baseball and earned a scholarship at the University of Denver (DU) as a baseball player. Later, he joined the hockey team and earned all-WCHA honors in 1973. Despite only playing 49 out of 76 games, McNab led the Cincinnati Swords of the American Hockey League (AHL) in scoring during the 1973-74 season and made his NHL debut with Buffalo the following season. His first NHL goal came on December 15, 1973, against the Minnesota North Stars. After reaching the 1975 Stanley Cup Finals, McNab was traded to the Boston Bruins, where he had his most successful NHL years. He consistently scored at least 35 goals and 75 points for six consecutive seasons and participated in the 1977 NHL All-Star Game. During the playoffs, he notably scored two game-winning goals in overtime. On December 23, 1979, McNab and teammate Mike Milbury were playing at Madison Square Garden in New York.
