American teenager Sloane Stephens has beaten five-time Australian Open champion Serena Williams in a dramatic quarter-final at Melbourne Park.
Williams needed treatment for a painful back complaint in the second set although she bounced back to make it a tough contest in the decider.
But Stephens stayed composed to win 3-6 7-5 6-4 to set up a semi-final clash with Victoria Azarenka.
Williams lost her temper during the match, smashing her racquet.
The next match on Rod Laver Arena is the men’s quarter-final between Andy Murray and Jeremy Chardy.
