Opening this weekend was Sony Pictures’ 23rd James Bond film Skyfall. In record setting style, the film opened in 25 markets overseas and earns a hefty $77 million to be the #1 movie everywhere.
In Great Britain alone, Skyfall ended opening night with $32.4 million in the bank. That’s second only to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 for the largest weekend ever. Skyfall’s kick-off was 76% bigger than Daniel Craig’s first run at Bond in Casino Royale and 30% bigger than Quantum Of Solace.
Sam Mendes directed Skyfall, which stars Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw, and will be released in 60 countries before it hits home in America on November 8th.
In the domestic box office the Warner Bros. film Argo reigned supreme. The Ben Affleck directed thriller already made back their production costs, which were $44.5 million and is now making all profit with a total of $60.8 million mad so far.
Hotel Transylvania placed #2 in the box office for its fifth week out this weekend. The film added another $9.5 million in ticket sales for a total of $130.4 million.
Cloud Atlas is definitely struggling to catch traction with an audience. The film, which cost $100 million to make and is lead by two of Hollywood’s biggest stars – Tom Hanks and Hally Berry – only made $9.4 million this weekend. The Warner Bros.’ film was directed by the Wachowski siblings and scored a C+ CinemaScore from audiences.
