Zara Tindall came into the world on Friday, May 15, 1981, at St Mary’s Hospital in London, United Kingdom. She is the daughter of Anne, Princess Royal (her mother), and Mark Philips (her father). Tindall garnered both individual and team gold medals while riding her horse Toytown at the 2005 European Eventing Championship held in Blenheim. She also secured individual gold and team silver medals at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, solidifying her status as the reigning Eventing World Champion until 2010. In the same year as her victory in Germany, the British public voted her BBC Sports Personality of the Year, an award her mother had won in 1971. Recognizing her contributions to equestrianism, she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2007 New Year Honours.
Despite earning a team gold medal at the 2007 European Eventing Championships in Italy, she was unable to defend her individual title in show jumping.
