Things seemed to be going smoothly for Jasmine McGriff and Will Guess from the show “Married at First Sight,” which documents the story of two strangers marrying each other moments after meeting.
But on the latest episode, the couple had a major disagreement about gender roles and how much each should contribute to the household expenses. Jasmine said she comes from a family where her father is the “provider,” so she deemed it necessary to pay a much smaller portion of the bills. Will, meanwhile, believed things should be split straight down the middle.

Will also said that he isn’t interested in sticking to traditional gender roles and doesn’t expect his wife to cook for him every day. Jasmine stuck to her position, however and said in return for him footing most of the bills, she’ll keep a clean house and prepare meals.
“Even though I’m a strong independent woman, a man is supposed to be the head of the household,” Jasmine stated. “50/50 is not going to happen. A man is supposed to be the protector of the house. He’s supposed to be the provider.”
Will said he didn’t care for his new wife’s stance and was worried he’d have to work several jobs to make her happy.
“I’m worried me and Jasmine have fundamental differences,” he explained. “This is not what I signed up for.”
The Internet lit up afterwards with a bunch of comments, many of them blasting Jasmine for expecting Will to take on the financial responsibility.
“70/30 and I’ll pay the little bills?” someone asked. “If you both work, then you pay your share to share. It’s not 1950 and you aren’t a stay at home.”
“That man doesn’t even know her,” another person commented. “Why on earth would he take on all her bills? Bills should be shared.”
