Tim Duncan Biography

Timothy Theodor Duncan, also known as Tim Duncan, was born on April 25, 1976, in Christiansted. His mother Ione, works as a professional midwife and his father William Duncan, is a mason. Duncan is the youngest among his three siblings, with two older sisters and one older brother. One of his sisters, Cheryl, was a successful swimmer who later became a nurse and his other sister, Tricia, represented the U.S. Virgin Islands in swimming at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Inspired by his sisters, Duncan initially aimed to become an Olympic-level swimmer. He showed great promise as a teenager and was training to qualify for the 1992 Olympic Games. However, his dreams were shattered when Hurricane Hugo destroyed the only Olympic-sized swimming pool on the island in 1989. Additionally, Duncan’s fear of sharks prevented him from swimming in the open ocean, dampening his enthusiasm for the sport. Another devastating blow came when his mother passed away from breast cancer just one day before his 14th birthday.
