This incident caused him to be partially paralyzed for about nine months. During his recovery, he used that time to learn how to DJ using his non-dominant left hand. In high school, he adopted the stage names DJ Timmy Tim or DJ Tim for his DJing performances. It was during this period that he met Melvin Barcliff and they formed a lasting friendship and collaboration. Timbaland graduated from Salem High School in 1990. He was also part of a group called S.B.I., which included Pharrell Williams as a fellow member.
