Women Who Went Viral for Calling Cops on Black Family Barbecuing at Park Now a Viral Meme

If viral fame — or infamy — has taught anyone anything, it’s that it’s usually followed by getting turned into a meme.

That’s exactly what happened to an Oakland, Calif., woman who dialed 911 after noticing a Black family barbecuing at a local park.

“No charcoal grills are allowed,” the unidentified woman, who is white, told Michelle Snider, who recorded the encounter at Lake Merritt Park in April.

The woman waited two hours for police to show up (they took no action once the arrived), as Snider maintained using a charcoal grill was not prohibited.

“This is exactly what is the problem with Oakland today. This lady wants to sit here and call the police on them for having a barbecue at the lake as if this is not normal,” Snider said in the video.

Now, the internet is poking fun at the woman, who burst into tears and claimed she was harassed and assaulted when cops arrived. Using major moments in Black history and culture, Twitter users have edited the caller into iconic images.
